Glorious sunrise – the face of God

While I was running an errand in the morning of 19 December 2012 to collect fish from a neighbour, along the way I saw a glorious sunrise over the horizon and took a couple of pictures, as shown below.

Perhaps the face of God is like the shining sun in the morning that represents love and warmth. For example, the psalmist wrote:

“O God, You are my God. Early will I seek You; my soul thirsts for You; my flesh longs for You in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water” (Psalm 63:1)

When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, LORD, I will seek. (Psalms 27:8 NKJV)

I also googled about a quote by C.S. Lewis and learnt that he was describing us as a manifestation of His beauty, loving kindness, wisdom and goodness.

“We were made for God. Only by being in some respect like Him, only by being a manifestation of His beauty, loving- kindness, wisdom or goodness, has any earthly Beloved excited our love. It is not that we have loved them too much, but that we did not quite understand what we were loving. It is not that we shall be asked to turn from them, so dearly familiar, to a Stranger. When we see the face of God we shall know that we have always known it. He has been a party to, has made, sustained and moved moment by moment within, all our earthly experiences of innocent love. All that was true love in them was, even on earth, far more His than ours, and ours only because His.”

C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves (1960; Harcourt Brace: 1991) 137-139.

Another verse from the Bible also came to my mind:

“… to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.” (2 Peter 1:19)

The new living translation says “their words are like a lamp shining in a dark place–until the Day dawns, and Christ the Morning Star shines in your hearts.” Yes, just as the face of Jesus shines like the shining sun, we see the face of God/Love shining in our heart. Wherever there is the love of God, we see his face.
